In the October 20, 2010 issue of JAMA (the Journal of the American Medical Association) a study was published entitled “Estrogen Plus Progestin and Breast Cancer Incidence and Mortality in Postmenopausal Woman.” This study concluded that the use of estrogen plus progestin was associated with a greater incidence of breast cancer and increased mortality in women diagnosed with breast cancer (compared to women not taking these drugs). This report has caused a great deal of concern for many of our patients undergoing HRT.

Although the results of this study are alarming, it is important to note that the specific drugs included in this study are conjugated equine estrogens (Premarin®) plus medroxyprogesterone acetate (PremPro®, Premarin® plus Provera®) which are either animal-derived or synthesized hormones. The study did not investigate the use of the bio-identical hormones that we use in all of our HRT products. All hormones used in our formulations are natural, plant-derived hormones.
